How to Easily Protect Your Computer From the Latest Viruses

Lately, people all over the world have been falling victim to serious cyber attacks. To make sure you’re not one of them, we’ve prepared some quick tips that will greatly reduce the risk of your computer getting a virus.

Keep Your Computer Updated

Those updates that require you to restart your computer may seem annoying, but they come with all the latest patches and security updates to keep you safe from malware. Hackers are always finding new ways to exploit our computer operating systems, so stay one step ahead of them and keep your computer updated. Not sure if your computer is updated?

For Windows 10 users: make sure your computer is connected to the internet then simply restart it and any new updates will be downloaded automatically.

For Mac users: make sure your computer is connected to the internet, then under the Apple Menu click System Preferences. Go to App Store and if there are updates available, you’ll be given the option to ‘Show Updates’. From there you can install those updates. A restart may be required.

Be Careful What You Download

Make sure when you download something off the internet that it’s from a reliable source. Shifty websites ought to be avoided and if your computer gives you a warning before downloading something, that’s a sign you could be about to install malware!

Turn On Your Firewall

Firewalls are what help keep hackers from accessing your computer. Every computer has one, so to make sure yours is doing its job you’ll have to ensure it’s turned on.

For Windows 10: Click the Start Button and open Windows Defender Security Center, then Firewall & network protection. Go to Windows Firewall and from there you can turn it on if it isn’t already.

For Mac: Go to System Preferences under the Apple Menu. Click Security or Security & Privacy, then access the Firewall tab. If it’s not turned on, click the lock on the bottom left corner and enter the administrator’s username and password. You’ll then be able to activate your firewall.
